adamquinn asked: what are your tattoos of?
I’ve got 4 tattoos.
My first one that I got is on my back. That one I got at a place in Ft. Worth, Texas at a shop called Lone Star Tattoos… and it’s an outline of Texas with a star over Dallas/Ft. Worth since that’s where I grew up & at the time that was the first time I had moved away from texas before and was living more or less on my own. (I was a freshman at Columbia College Chicago).
My second one I got in Chicago at a place called Insight Tattoos (or studio or something). I saw the phrase “Pray more, take less” on a piece of art work in a gallery that was showing homeless artwork that had been done. I’m not sure why, but that moved me. So a few months later, I got “Give more, take less” on my left wrist.
My third one I got last may right before I left Chicago. I also got this one at Insight. Over the coarse of my three years living in chicago, as odd as it sounds, I had grown to feel close to the ring-billed gulls (who look like sea gulls but with a black ring around their bills) who live and fly around the city. I was also really inspired by the prevalence of art deco (an art & architecture style) around Chicago… so as my tribute to both the gulls and the city, I got a larger (1/4 to 1/3 size of a sleeve) tattoo of 4 sea gulls flying in the air in the style of art deco.
My fourth one, I got done in my friend Kale’s kitchen. I’d been wanting to get an arm band since probably my freshman year of college… but for whatever reason, rumor has it that tattoo artists in chicago don’t do arm bands anymore… i forget the reasoning but I know a few friends of mine that had been able to get them to do it said you either have to know who to go to or really convince the artist to do it. Regardless, my friend Leah was rad and sat me down and gave me a stick & poke of an arm band on friday. so that’s pretty rad.
lol so that’s all of ‘em.
maybe one day i’ll get them all photographed.
i really have to stop getting tattoos soon. But I just really like the idea of art on my body.
